Happy EmployeesWhile offering a comprehensive employee benefits package isn't mandatory (with some health insurance exceptions), it is a great way to attract talented, hard-working employees. Basically, quality workers look for quality jobs. So in order to hire an exceptional staff, it's in your best interests to offer the benefits that workers find valuable, which include some of the following.
  • Bonuses and monetary rewards: Establishing a rewarding career is attractive to many workers, but at the end of the day we work to earn a living. This makes monetary rewards a good motivational tool. Offer bonuses or other monetary rewards — such as gift cards, free movie passes, sponsored lunches etc. — at the end of the year or upon the completion of big projects. The chance to earn some extra cash often makes employees work harder to meet goals, which supports the overall success of the business.
  • Paid time off: Everyone needs a break once in a while to slough off the tedium of daily life. Offering paid time off and encouraging workers to use it is a very valuable benefit that allows workers to relax and return to work refreshed. Two weeks is a standard period of time during an employee's first year, with additional days accrued as employees stay with the company for longer.
  • Flexible hours: It seems like everyone has busy, over-scheduled lives these days, which makes it difficult to be required to work rigid hours. Instead, offer flexible hours and/or the ability to work remotely to allow employees to complete their work when it's most convenient for their schedules. So long as workers continue meeting deadlines and delivering quality work, this arrangement can be very beneficial for both employer and employee.
  • Retirement savings: Younger generations are learning the importance of starting to save for retirement early on. Offering a 401(k) plan helps employees support their personal goals, particularly plans in which the employer matches employee contributions. This makes it easy to save because funds are automatically deducted from employees' paychecks so they don't have a chance to miss the money.
