With sub zero temperatures projected throughout most of the Midwest over the next few months comes the eminent problem of frozen pipes.  In the event that a pipe breaks due to freezing, it is very important to inform our customers not to touch anything electrical.  When at all possible, it is also a good idea to shut off power from the breaker box to the affected areas of the flood.  Outside water spigots are often the biggest culprit associated with residential broken pipes.  Making sure garden hoses are removed prevents the greatest majority of hard (backup) freezing.  It is also helpful to cover spigot outlets with insulation to prevent the transfer of the outside cold air down the pipe.  These 2 procedures stop the vast majority of spigot pipe freezing.

TCU Insurance serves the Michiana area with Indiana Home Insurance. Give us a call at 800-772-8043 with any questions you may have about preventing frozen pipes this winter.
